Year in Review at Scribbles Designs

Wow, can you believe how fast 2018 flew by? I don't know about you, but I think my year went quickly because I was so busy with school, traveling, crafting and setting myself up to sell my art and teach craft workshops. All in all, it was a successful year, although overshadowed by the loss of my husband. A bittersweet year of grief, growth, self-realization and exploration.

At Scribbles  Designs Challenge Blog, the theme is Year in Review. Check out all the themes offered in 2018, choose one and create a project for your chance to win a gift certificate to the Scribbles Store. My card was inspired by Challenge #68, Year of the Dog. The image I used is 441 Santa Puppy Hat . Isn't he cute? Of course, my Silkie Terrier, Wilson, is just as cute!
While trying (once again) to organize my craft room, I re-discovered my crimper. I think the crimped paper gives the card a little extra dimension. I also used a sentient from the Scribbles Store called Happy Howl-idays! I think my Christmas card turned out well, don't you?

You have until January 14th to link up your project for the Scribbles Challenge. Don't be late, like I am (my DT make should have been posted yesterday, YIKES!). Hope to see your art at the main blog. Happy crafting!

It's Day 10 at Scribbles Designs' Raise the Hoof 12 Days of Christmas

You may have heard of Olive the Reindeer. There has even been a boo written about her. Well, this is NOT about that Olive. This Olive is a real diva. She blew into Santa's reindeer village a long time ago. Her dream was to meet the one and only Rudolph, have him fall madly in love with her beauty and charm, and they would lead Santa's sleigh together (which would ultimately lead to a few Christmas movies with her name in lights).

Poor Olive! She strutted around, teasing all the other reindeer. She even had her nails polished a bright red to match Rudolph's nose! She was a true coquette, very popular with the bucks. She didn't have any doe friends, but she was so busy trying to get close to Rudolph that she didn't notice.

Of course, Rudolph was in love with Clarice, and nothing could pull them apart. Try as she might, she got nowhere with Rudolph, and only got Clarice angry with her. And when Clarice is upset, Rudolph is upset. And when Rudolph is upset, Santa is upset. Olive's attitude and actions produced a domino effect, with her being the domino, or reindeer, to topple the hardest.

Olive knew she had to change, or at least set her sights on another buck. She's still on Santa's turf. She hasn't made up her mind yet, but loves to flirt and have "fun with the boys." The does are okay with her, as long as she stays away from the bucks that are already committed to other does. That's fine with Olive. After all, there were plenty of bucks on the tundra, and there was plenty of time before she had to settle down...

Welcome to Scribbles Designs' Raise the Hoof 12 Days of Christmas holiday celebration! Today is Day 10 and Olive is today's new release! Each day from December 1 - 12, Scribbles is releasing a Christmas digital image. For more information on the celebration, click HERE to go to the main blog.

My card is a hybrid, a mix of digital and hand-colored images and embellishments. Here's what went into it:
Image: Olive from Scribbles Designs
Papers: Marta Van Eck Winter Scene Paper 9; Eena's Creations Winter Overlay 17; Decosse's Dynamite Doodles Black paper from Naturally Cool Paper Kit.
Elements: Digi Dewy Christmas Day Holly Sticker 2; Santa's Reindeer free clipart from Wilson Info

Shadow Boxing, Holiday Style

Getting ready for a Holiday craft workshop at the end of this week. Here's my Christmas Shadow Box, to be used as a sample. My craft bag is packed and I'm lucky the store supplies the scissors and glue guns. I had fun shopping antique and thrift stores for holiday tchotchke and figurines. I got some great deals as you can see from my box above.
The pocket backgrounds are from leftover patterned papers. I first used Ranger Inks Stain to give my natural wood box some holiday color. The white "dots" you see on the joints of my box's pockets are from the felt ribbon I used to go around the outside of my box.
I love how the altered shadow box turned out and look forward to  Christmas day when my guests will come for dinner and see it. You can check out my Facebook page for all the unique creations made at the workshop: https://www.facebook.com/PatacakesPaperPlay/

It's Day 7 of the Reindeer Games at Scribbles Designs

A long time ago, when Norse gods ruled the universe, Thor, god of sky and thunder, was said to ride a chariot pulled by two giant magical goats. But few people know that before he had goats there was just one magical beast - a mighty reindeer, named after his master. At that time, Thor was called Donar by the Germanic people. Thor and his namesake would thunder across the skies, lighting up the night and bringing order throughout the universe.
One winter night, Thor and Donar came upon a man resting beside a fire in the woods, a large cumbersome sack at his side. The man seemed to have no fear of the god and his beast and welcomed them to join him. He told them he took frequent stops on his travels, bringing gifts to children throughout the land. As he and Thor talked, Donar lay his head down on the man's lap.
Thor was astounded,as Donar was friendly to no normal being. Recognizing this man as an equal, he decided to gift him with his longtime friend. The gentleman laughed deeply and thanked Thor for such a mighty gift. It would shorten his work very much.
The man drew a bright red cloak over him and hitched the reindeer up to a sled he had parked behind an outcropping. Renaming him Donner, Santa took hold of the reins and waved farewell to Thor. That night his journey went so smoothly that he looked for more flying reindeer to pull his sled, and so Christmas has gone smoothly ever since thanks to the Norse god and Donner.

Welcome to the 12 Days of Christmas celebration, where we at Scribbles Designs are Raising the Hoof with a new release every day from December 1 through the 12th. I was lucky to play with the infamous Donner, which can be found HERE. The celebration includes holiday inspiration, games and prizes. Christmas Time at Ike's World Challenge Blog

Nowadays we say Merry Christmas or Happy Christmas, but I bet in Victorian times, it wasn't all that merry. Look at poor Mr.Poe, wearing a stiff collar and heavy clothing, all dressed up with nowhere to go. His writings certainly don't paint him as a jolly fellow.

And yet even with his somber expression, he does look pretty dapper on my Christmas card. I think the greeting "Silent Night" is perfectly fitted for him, whether he spends his night in his cups, or stays up til all hours writing lost love and tell-tale hearts.I have a couple friends who love r.Poe's writings and would appreciate this card. One of them will get a nice little surprise in the mail this holiday.

Poe with Candle is the name of this Ike's Art digi image.I colored him in traditional Christmas colors to jolly him up. Speaking of jolly, the theme at Ike's World Challenge Blog is CHRISTMAS TIME. Any project qualifies for a chance to win free digis from Ike's Shop.Just remember to link up before the end of the month.

Now wouldn't that be a great way to end the year?  Free digis from Ike's Art!! My kind of Christmas present!! Good luck, and happy crafting!

Silver & Gold & Metallics Line the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog

Finishing this year's theme collection of COLORS, the Path of Positivity challenge blog asks for projects using any kind of METALLICS - gold, silver, copper, aluminum, metallic gel gen, glitter, charms - whatever media your Muse inspires you to create with. It's an optional theme, but if your project follows this theme with a healthy amount of metal featured, your entry will be eligible for the Most Inspirational prize from Sparkle n Sprinkle, the guest sponsor this month.
I used a digi image from Sparkle n Sprinkle called Flower Silhouette with a gold and silver color combo. This combo runs through my background papers as well as in my flower blossoms. Then I spritzed on some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist for an overall shimmer.
I dug into my jewelry and metal stash and was able to embellish each flower as well as a few butterflies and even the Happy Birthday greeting. To enhance the jewelry bits, I adhered a little fine crystal glitter from Stampin Up.

As I draw near to the end of the year, I am seeing a difference in my crafting stash. My paper has been reduced by about 20%, and my holiday stash is half what it used to be! This has been an ongoing goal, one which has kept me from having the time of my life in stores like Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Sigh! But I am seeing a light at the end of the paper crafting tunnel.

I really like the way my birthday card turned out. The inside's sentiment reads: "May your birthday bloom with wonderful surprises" I know so many people whose birthdays fall in December, this card is completed just in time for a special friend.

Back to the challenge at the Path of Positivity. while the theme is optional, ALL projects must be positive, encouraging or affirming in some way. Lord knows we need all the support from each other that we can get - am I right? So you have until the end of the year (boy, that sounds so weird to write out) to create and get your projects linked up to the Path of Positivity challenge blog for your chance to win some awesome prizes from Sparkle n Sprinkle. I can't wait to see what you come up with!! See you on the Path!!

We're down to the wire, crafters. For those of you who are still working on holiday cards, just 23 days to go; and for those of you who have your card needs covered, brava, and why not use the extra time to start building next year's stash?
Today I created a card for my granddaughter, Bella. She's in middle school now, and made the cheerleading squad. She should get a kick out of this one. I used a Bugaboo digi image called "BB Cheerleader Girl." I like using images in unusual ways, like a cheerleader for a holiday card.
Once again, my stash has supplied everything I needed for my card. I even re-discovered my Fiskars roller. It really gives my patterned paper added dimension. My card turned out so well, I think I'll use it at my next card-making workshop later this month.

All I Want for Christmas...

So many friends, so many Christmas cards needed. Here's another card, this one destined for my letter carrier. I had to use Stella from Bugaboo Designs with the sentiment inside reading:
"...is Santa's naughty Boy list"
I am still diligently using up my stash, although the temptation to run to Michael's is almost irresistible. However, I need to use up before I buy up. That's what keeps a craft room from becoming a crap room...

You can find "Stella Christmas - Boy List" digi at the Bugaboo Store HERE.   Now to get back to my Christmas card making. Happy crafting!

Kitty Bee Sponsors Your Scrapbook Place

Can you believe that Christmas is just 24 days away?! Thankfully I have mailed all my cards, but am still working on those I need to hand deliver. Which brings me to my card today, featuring a digi image from Kitty Bee, the guest sponsor over at Your Scrapbook Place challenge blog.
I've been pulling papers out of my dwindling holiday stash (yay, me). Coloring my image with Copics, I doodled olive green dots around the image and framed him with a paper doily. I embellished simply with a line of adhesive jewels, a hand-tied bow, a coupe tiny snowflake stickers and one lonely little die-cut tree. It was a simple design, so I created another Christmas card with the leftovers from this project and a different image (I'm sure it will pop up on my blog later this week).

The theme at Your Scrapbook Place challenge blog is always ANYTHING GOES, so no excuses, crafters. Get out your inks and adhesives and papers and link your projects up for your chance to win the random draw prize from Kitty Bee Designs!! Happy crafting!

It's Reindeer Games at Scribbles Designs challenge blog

Rudolph and his buddies aren't very happy this year. Due to budget cuts, Santa had to sell the stable and now Rudy has to share a cramped trailer with the other 8 reindeer who pull Santa's sleigh. It was getting downright dangerous with all those antlers moving about. Somebody could get his eye poked out! Let's hope Santa has a better year in 2019. For now, Rudolph and the others will just have to tough it out.
My digital card uses a few images from Scribbles Designs: #F57 Rudy (a freebie), #F152 North Pole (another freebie) and #953 Emily's Trailer. To showcase these images, I used Reindeer patterned paper from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles Cartoony Christmas patterned paper kit, as well as Square Frame 2 from the Holiday Frames Kit and a few red Snowflakes from the Snow Much Fun Mini  Kit. The background paper is from Mischief Circus' Holliewood Dramatic Scenic Papers. I finished off my card using a Christmas Poinsettia from DigiDewy's Winter Wonderland Kit.
The challenge at Scribbles Designs runs through the 14th of the month, so don't forget to link up your project for your chance to win free digis from the Scribbles Store!

Turning Green at the Path of Positivity

The optional challenge this month at the Path of Positivity is "Shades of Green" and there are two fabulous guest sponsors whose images the DT (one of them ME) get to play with:
and

My card today uses a digi image from Ike's Art called Stitchy Cats. I decided to use a die that I bought at a CHA Convention, the only time I know that came to Chicago. I printed my image in green ink so I could color it minimally. I couldn't resist the greeting inside:

"you smile, I smile
You hiss, I hiss,
You cry, I cry,
You jump off bridge,
I gonna miss you!"

In order to be considered eligible for this month's prizes, ALL creations must be positive, inspirational, motivational or encouraging in some nature. There is a Random Draw prize of a $10 gift certificate from Scribbles Designs.

You do need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win the prize for the project chosen as Most Inspiring, which is a $15 gift certificate from Ike's Art.

You've got the whole month to create and link up your project with the Path of Positivity. If you choose to create in shades of Green, you have the chance to win either or both prizes! So good luck and happy crafting!

Limited Runs Sponsors Your Scrapbook Place Challenge Blog

This month Limited Runs is guest sponsor at Your Scrapbook Place, and it's always ANYTHING GOES. I used this sweet digi called Birdhouses. I colored it with Copics and fussy-cut it, popping it onto some leftover Christmas paper. A diecut snowflake and bird and a few jewels for some bling and mt card is complete. Oh, the sentiment was part of another piece of Christmas paper.

I have to make lots of cards quickly, as the year is coming to an end. I resolved to deplete my paper stash as much as I could this year. I think I've done a fair job. My pile o' paper is just over a half of what I started with this year, which was easier to do once I stopped buying new papers! LOL

We're ALL TIED UP at the 12 Months of Christmas

I just realized my post did not publish on the 1st as it should have, so I offer apologies and roll out my DT make with little to no fanfare. This month the optional theme at the 12 Months of Christmas is All Tied Up. Your card must have some form of wrapping ribbon, raffia, twine or bows - something that would keep presents from unwrapping themselves! LOL

My card sports a bow with a digi image from Limited Runs called Girl with Bunny Slippers.
Another way to incorporate the theme in your card is to use it in your embellishments or paper, like I did with the scenic paper from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles paper from her "North Pole" Patterned Paper mini kit.
I hand-colored my image, then popped it onto my digital paper with sentiment. My bow and other embellishments are from my stash of Christmas supplies leftover from last year.
However you interpret the theme, if you do so, your card will be in the draw for a $10 gift certificate to the Limited Runs Store.

The theme is optional, so if you don't want to create with the theme in mind, you still win one free digital paper as long as you link up a minimum of two cards to the challenge.

So what are you waiting for?! Christmas is right around the corner!! Let's get those cards done, and DON"T forget to link them to the 12 Months of Christmas Blog.

Photo Inspiration from Ike's World Challenge Blog

This month's challenge theme at Ike's World Challenge Blog is a photo inspiration, pictured below. Now how open is that?! It took me forever to choose the image I wanted to play with, but I decided on "Shhhh" It is probably one of my favorite images to play with from Ike's Store (her colored hair alone pulls in most of the colors in the inspiration photo LOL).

If you can't read the sentiment, the first speech bubble says: "Bad News - I forgot your Birthday" The second bubble reads: "Good News - I forgot how old you are"

I always have fun coloring her hair, and finding just the right words to put with her look. I think I got it spot on for my birthday card. So for November, the optional challenge theme is to pull whatever inspiration you get from the photo offered. Hopefully your Muse will be abuzz with creative energy. And hopefully, you will link up your project or card with Ike's World Challenge Bog for your chance to win a gift certificate to Ike's Store.

Good luck and happy crafting!

The Path of Positivity Looking for Shades of Green

Good evening crafters! I hope the day has been kind to you. This month, the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog invites you to create in Shades of Green. There are two sponsors that offer gift certificates to their stores as prizes:
Scribbles Designs is offering a $10 gift certificate
for one random-draw winner. Remember, all entries must be positive,
uplifting or encouraging in some way.

and
Ike's Art is offering a $15 gift certificate
for the project deemed MOST INSPIRING
by the DT

My card offers a fun view of Christmas with Ike's Art digi "Frosty's Christmas Trees". What could be more GREEN than trees at a Christmas tree lot? (unless everything's covered in snow) Luckily, Frosty has a clear day with just a dusting of snow on the ground. But he better sell fast, as there are blizzard warnings out!

Do you buy a real tree for Christmas? We used to, but my nose can't take the fresh heavenly scent of pine or spruce or whatever the lots have for us in Chicago. So I try to get a good, natural-looking artificial tree that will last for years to come.

Your card or project doesn't have to be related to Christmas, as you can see at the Path of Positivity blog. Of course, whatever you create, have fun, and don't forget to link up for a chance to win those terrific gift certificates!

It's Winter at Scribbles Challenge Blog

Here is my DT make for the November 1 challenge at Scribbles Designs. The theme is Winter is Coming, and you have until the 14th to create and link up your projects for a chance to win a gift certificate to the Scribbles Store.
My card uses a sweet digi called "Frosty's Christmas Trees." Do you buy a real tree or have an artificial one? I had to buy an artificial one due to allergies. I suffered for a long time as a kid, one year having problems sleeping so took the couch and ended up with a serious sinus infection over the holidays!
However you interpret Winter Is Coming, create with love, and don't forget to link up with Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog for your chance to win some goodies!!

Gearing Up for Winter at the 12 Months of Christmas Link-Up

Autumn is finally here, although Mother Nature has thrown in a few days in the 80s (F) just to keep us on our toes here in Chicago. So who's to say she won't surprise us with a blizzard next week?!
Whether she does it next week or in a couple months, it's time to head to the back of your closet and dig out your long underwear and other winter gear. So I think you get the connection between that last sentence and this month's optional theme at the 12 Months of Christmas Challenge Blog, "Gear Up for Winter".

The guest sponsor is Pattie's Creations, and the image I used from her shop is called Penguin Igloo. I have the perfect sentiment on the inside of my card: May your home be warm with Christmas cheer, and Peace be yours the whole year through"  That is a rubber stamp from Stampin Up. I decided to lighten up my card by using alight pink/coral coloring and pretty much kept it monochromatic. I also played around with the placement of my image, finally deciding to keep it off-center of the frame layers I built up. For shimmer, I added Stickles to my penguin's hat and the cuffs of the mittens on my background paper; Liquid Pearls to the snowflakes and the snow on the ground; and Liquid Glass to my penguin's beak and feet. AND I am keeping my promise to make two cards instead of one each time so that I have a double stash going!

So, in order to have a chance at the prize from Pattie's Creations, you need to create a card that features warm winter clothing or other winter accessories (hats, mitts, muffs, scarves, sweaters, boots, etc.). The items MUST be attached to a person's body, like skates, skis, snowshoes, etc. AND  it must If you do follow the optional theme, be sure to add FT after your name so that we include you in the draw for 3 images from the Pattie's Creations store.

Of course, you don't need to follow the theme to link up your cards at the 12 Months of Christmas Challenge Blog and earn a free paper each month or for a chance to win the featured paper set from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles. Just if you want to try your chance at the 3 free images from Pattie's Creations.

Shades of Purple Dominate the Path of Positivity

The challenge at the Path of Positivity is midway through its theme on SHADES OF PURPLE. This optional theme asks that most of the overall color scheme is some form of  purple. If you do follow this theme, you will have a chance to win the prize for the Most Inspirational Creation, a $12 gift certificate from A Day for Daisies, one of the guest sponsors this month.
I got to play with a lovely digi image from A Day for Daisies called Hepburn Dress.I adore this image. It whispered to me, "Keep it simple. Let me speak for myself."
So I did my best to make this card as "CAS" as possible. I have a problem with CAS cards. I tend to keep adding more and more onto the cards. But this one stayed my hand, and I love what I created. All supplies are from my leftovers stash

You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of a $10 gift certificate from Limited Runs. However, all projects must be positive or affirming in some way. In this crazy world we live in, we need all the support and encouragement we can get, and the Path of Positivity is "a unique challenge blog designed to inspire, nurture and provide support for the soul by creating a positive path to follow, one project or post at a time!"
I can't wait to see what you create!

Winter Fun at Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog

Like the seasons, the challenge themes over at Scribbles Designs change, too. Today begins a new challenge, WINTER IS COMING. So I got to play with a Scribbles Designs digi image called Snowman Snapshot #840. I made a special hybrid card for my granddaughter, Bella. This is a card she can put in her scrapbook. She is about three years old in the black & white photo.

I popped a patterned paper from Decosse's Dynamite Doodles behind my Bella and the snowman, then framed them both with a leftover piece of paper from Creative Memories. I finished off my card with a small bow I made.

Ike's World Challenge Blog Salutes Edgar AllenPoe

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I took an independent study course on Edgar Allen Poe. My final grade was based on a 30 page paper on the author and poet - his life, his love and his work.
The new challenge at Ike's World Challenge Blog, Celebrating Edgar Allen Poe, fits in perfectly with my educational background AND my love of Ike's Art digis!
I've colored and collaged several digi images from Ike's Art Store to showcase one of my favorite quotes from the author - "Believe nothing you hear and only one-half that you see". My project includes the following:
Pixel Scrappers Melo Vrijhof's Painted Edge Overlay 6; Mischief Circus'
Krysty's Designs Boring Evening Patterned Paper 13

Do you like the writings of Poe? What's your favorite poem or story? The Tell-tale Heart was one of my favorite stories, and of course The Raven my fave poem. He is the perfect master of Halloween, don't you think? If you've a mind to create with Mr. Poe as your muse, don't forget to link up at Ike's World Challenge Blog for your chance for free goodies from her store!

Shades of Purple Color the Path of Positivity

The Path of Positivity has offered a series of color challenges this year. This month the focus is on SHADES OF PURPLE. This optional theme asks that most of the overall color scheme is some form of  purple. If you do follow this theme, you will have a chance to win the prize for the Most Inspirational Creation, a $12 gift certificate from A Day for Daisies, one of the guest sponsors this month.

My card today uses a digi image from another guest sponsor, Limited Runs. The image is called Cat in a Pumpkin. You don't need to follow the optional theme if you simply want to have a chance at the Random Draw prize of a $10 gift certificate from Limited Runs.

You only need to follow the theme if you want a chance to win an additional sponsored prize of a $12 gift certificate from A Day for Daisies for the project chosen as Most Inspiring.

My cat is very happy. He has a sweet tooth and it seems that sweet tooth will be satisfied with all that candy he's collecting! I have fun handing out candy at Halloween. I make it into a game for the trick-or-treaters. I will buy a pumpkin and stab it with an ice pick (very Jason-like) until I have a bazillion holes in the pumpkin.

I also buy a box of full-sized candy bars and a big bag of Dum Dums, or any small lollipops. I color the tips of as many lollipops as there are candy bars. And the pops go into the pumpkin, adding the colored tipped ones. When the kids come trick-or-treating, they get to pull a lollipop. If there's NO colored tip, that is their treat. If they pull one with a colored tip, you should see their eyes light up when they receive a full-sized candy bar.

Crafters have the whole month to create (using the theme or not) and linking up their projects at the Path of Positivity Challenge Blog for their chance to win some awesome gift certificates from the sponsors. Anything goes as long as it is positive, encouraging or affirmative.

So let your Muse settle in and have fun!

Anything Goes at Your Scrapbook Place

The month of October is filled with changes in color, texture, temperature and attitude. I always get a little excited when October bursts upon us. The leaves are styling their show stopper colors, dropping a crunchy,  intoxicating path on which to walk. The wind is crisp, promising sunshine but warning us to keep that sweater close by. After the sleepy heat of August and September, I welcome the season of Fall with open arms.
Today I created a Halloween card to celebrate the Muse who hovers over my shoulder with so many ideas I can't keep up with her. I used a digi image from Bugaboo Stamps, the guest sponsor at Your Scrapbook Place. It's called Cupcake Skelekins. There's a whole line of cute little Skelekins at the Bugaboo Store, along with zillions of cute, sassy and whimsical images.
Since the patterned paper I used for the background is so busy, I cut a circle out of cardstock and doodled around my Skelekin to make her pop. Everything I used for my card is from my stash of leftovers. I have enough stash to create for the rest of the year without buying anything except adhesives (but that's no fun, is it?)
The challenge is Anything Goes and crafters have a whole month to create and link up their projects in order to have a chance to win a gift certificate to Bugaboo Stamps Store. Good luck and happy crafting!
